This client in Guilford came to us by way of a referral from a referral.  The decrepit concrete driveway was failing miserably and needed to be replaced.  Our client had a vision in mind, but the community HOA was so strict that the vision was not going to be accepted.  Horizon stepped in and found a vehicular-safe, interlocking concrete paver to replicate the cobblestone look the clients wanted and that the HOA approved.

During the removal of the existing concrete drive, it was discovered that all the front downspouts were run under the failing driveway.  Upon further inspection, we found that the downspouts were run into terracotta piping that had all but disintegrated and that this was likely the main cause of the existing driveway’s failure.

Horizon removed all the old concrete and installed new 4-inch, schedule 40 pipe that could withstand vehicular traffic.  We installed a new 14” aggregate base that we compacted with a full-size compaction roller, similar to what you might see in road construction.  Compaction is key!  Once the downspouts were newly installed and the base stone was compacted, Horizon installed a Techo-Bloc Villagio paver to replicate an old-school cobblestone appearance.
